Rutuja holds a Master’s degree in Development from Azim Premji University and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Savitribai Phule Pune University. During her undergraduate studies, she pursued certificate courses in Public Policy and Gender & Politics.
She was part of the winning team of the Youth Parliament organized by ABP Maza and actively engaged in debate competitions, essay writing, annual departmental events, political film screenings, and the poetry club. Rutuja also volunteered with Swaraj Abhiyan led by Yogendra Yadav and participated in the Talash Bharat Ki internship in Beed district, Maharashtra. In addition, she organized sessions at Tuljaram Chaturchand College, Baramati, on “Career Paths in the Social Sector,” reflecting her commitment to guiding students toward meaningful opportunities in public service and development.
She has been working in the development sector since 2021, immediately after completing her master’s degree. She began her career with PRADAN as a Development Apprentice in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, where she worked with 75 Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Her responsibilities included forming new SHGs, training women cadres on gender, social issues, and livelihoods, and building a micro-enterprise with women from the ground up.
Later, she collaborated with TISS, Mumbai on the project Forest Rights and Governance in Raigad and Thane districts of Maharashtra, focusing on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). Seeking creative exploration beyond fieldwork, she ventured into documentary filmmaking in Bhopal with Green Hub, working closely with filmmaker Rita Banerjee.
Her passion lies in engaging with communities and developing resources at the grassroots level. With each experience, her understanding of the theory and practice of social sciences has deepened—empirical data and field insights are shaping her perspective on policy-making. She values innovation and exploration in her work, and beyond her professional commitments, she is a reader, writer, and storyteller. She enjoys interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, recording conversations, and capturing the beauty of everyday life through words and visuals.
