TUIF partners with women in ultra-poverty in India to build economic opportunity and drive inclusion. With governments and other organizations, we reach underserved women in remote, rural areas with programming that enables them to plan and execute livelihood activities, become active members in their Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and learn skills to strengthen their livelihoods.
Families in ultra-poverty are isolated from their communities, heavily reliant on sporadic wage labor, and experience food insecurity. But pathways out of ultra-poverty remain few and far between as economic strengthening programs typically do not reach this segment of the population. This is why TUIF focuses on bringing livelihood programming to these communities.
Gender inequality limits women’s access to education, blocks economic opportunities, and compounds social exclusion. It is a driver of ultra-poverty. So, we put women at the center of programming. We foster enabling environments for women to forge their own resilient pathways out of ultra-poverty. With livelihood skills training and mentoring, they create sustainable change for themselves, their families, and their communities.
