Payal Ghosalkar holds a Master’s degree in Development and Planning from Azim Premji University, where she developed strong analytical and field-based insights into poverty, livelihoods, and development planning. She has completed her Bachelor’s degree in Economics. Her academic training is complemented by intensive field immersion, research projects, and hands-on exposure to development interventions focused on poverty alleviation, livelihoods, and social inclusion. A committed development professional and social practitioner, Payal has been closely engaged with issues of extreme poverty, livelihoods promotion, graduation approaches, and inclusive development. Her work reflects a strong understanding of multi-dimensional poverty and the design of context-specific solutions for ultra-poor and vulnerable communities. She has been actively involved in planning, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of large-scale livelihood and social protection programs, particularly in Bihar.

Payal brings over three years of professional experience in the development sector and has worked extensively with JEEViKA (Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society). Her experience includes working on the Satat Jeevikoparjan Yojana (SJY), graduation-based livelihood models, capacity building of community institutions, coordination with government stakeholders, and engagement with national and international partners. She has also contributed to designing Monitoring & Evaluation frameworks, operational guidelines, and program documentation for inclusive livelihood programs.

With strong exposure to state- and national-level programs, Payal has worked closely with government departments, NGOs, and multilateral stakeholders, including participation in learning exchange platforms and interactions with international organizations. Her professional strengths include program design, stakeholder coordination, field operations, reporting, and policy-aligned implementation.

A conscientious development practitioner, Payal is deeply interested in creating sustainable livelihood pathways, scaling graduation approaches, and strengthening systems for long-term poverty reduction. Her personal interests include reading, writing, traveling, and engaging with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, which further enrich her field engagement and professional outlook.
