Working with ultra-poor women to break the cycle of poverty

268 million people in India are experiencing extreme poverty. Many live in remote, rural areas that are difficult to reach. They face intersecting vulnerabilities and are too often excluded from the systems that should serve them.

Who We Are

Trickle Up India Foundation (TUIF) supports ultra-poor women in India. Central America and West Africa to move out of poverty by enabling them to plan and execute series of livelihood activities, become active members in their savings and credit groups, and learn skills to strengthen their livelihoods.

Why Ultra-Poor

The ultra-poor represent a segment of the population not typically reached by economic strengthening programs, and pathways out of poverty for this population remain few and far between. Ultra-poor families are isolated from their communities, heavily reliant on sporadic wage labor, and food insure.

Why Women

Women is confronted by the enduring legacy of life without access to education and the threat of sudden illness without recourse. She is excluded from the social ties of her community and the economic opportunities of local markets. She may have fled her home to escape a ravaging conflict or climate, or both.




The Graduation Approach uses the right mix of interventions, offered in the right sequence to help the extreme poor to “graduate” from extreme poverty into a sustainable livelihood within a defined time period.
